In 1940 the governor of the colony of Tchad, Felix Eboue, a highly-original civil servant, was the first colonial governor to place his territory at the disposition of General de Gaulle. Badge of Free French (belonging to the artistŐs father), buffalo skull, monkey and fighter-bomber this is Africa at war. Beneath the inscription from General de Gaulle to the artist one can read, "Buffalo shot by General de Gaulle on 16 October, 1940, near Fort-Archambault".
